Corral Canyon Itinerary - July 17, 2004

 

Run:

Corral Canyon OHV park near lake Marena east of San Diego. -- We'll do Sidewinder, Bronco Peak, and hopefully the Los Pinos Lookout at sunset.

General info:
Corral Canyon is about 4000ft in elevation (hopefully not too hot).  Bronco Peak is the main hill in the park and trails surround it.  Mostly low brush with loose dirt trails.  Some rocks. http://www.sdorc.org/ohvareas/c_canyon/c_canyon.html

Meeting Location:

Kurt is leaving Friday night - no specific meeting location noted.  He's Leaving at 7:30 Friday night from Corona (91 & 15). Contact Kurt to join.

Directions:

South on the 15 freeway, East on hwy 8 past Alpine (last gas stop), continue to Buckman Springs Road, drive south 3.6 miles, turn right onto Corral Canyon Road and drive 6.2 miles to the Four Corners Trailhead, turn left to Bobcat Campground (Corral Canyon Campground is to the left). Meeting Place: 2 groups - John Strege leaving on Friday morning (contact him).

Approx Duration of Run:

All day.

Degree of Difficulty:

1-2.  See Maps.  Easy to Most Difficult depending on the trail. The lookout is easy.

Special Equipment Required:

Lots of WATER!

Number of Attendees Limited?

No.

Is Over Night Camping Available?

Yes, at Corral Campground or Bobcat Campground.  Camping is free (first come, first served), but you must have an Adventure Pass.  We'll try for Bobcat Campground (dry) if filled, then Corral Canyon (water spigot).

Trail Boss Camping?

Yes.
