Bullhead City / Laughlin Run

October 23, 2004

Food for Thought:

October 23 is the 2nd annual Bullhead City, AZ run. For the new members, Bullhead City is across the Colorado River from Laughlin, NV. It is about 260 miles from Orange County (4.5 hours driving). Last year we did the Sleeping Princes trail rated at a 5. We had numerous breakdowns and it was after midnight when we returned to our hotels or camp sites. If we decide to do this one it will require an early morning start.

This year I (Bill H.) was considering offering the club the option of doing something a little more on the calmer side. I have been informed of a trail that goes from Bullhead city to Oatman. I understand it is a very easy trail with a couple of small obstacles and some old mines along the way. I have not been on the trail so I don’t know much about it. I do plan on running it prior to the meeting next week. Oatman is an old mining town located along Route 66. There are a number of old stores to browse and several burros that roam the streets. They often have a gun fight going on in the street. (Old west reenactment)

The last option is to do an exploratory run and to see where some of the trails go from the Highway.

After the trail, we could all meet for dinner in any of the fine restaurants; and, for the adult population, a run to the casino for some exciting action. I am open to any of the above. I realize this is a long drive for a 1 day event and we should make the most of the entire time there.

If you are thinking of attending please let me know your thoughts and preference for a run. We will be there whatever we decide.

To summarize the trail options:

1. Sleeping Princess
2. Easy trail to Oatman and surrounding area
3. Pick a direction and explore.
