TRUCKHAVEN
2001
Nov.
21 Salton Sea, Ca.
We
hooked up the Amigo and left Yorba Linda at 8am. Driving to Serfas Club Dr.
in Corona to meet Andy Miller and his son Marshall in their Yellow VehiCross.
We arrived at Marina Dr. North at 10:45 and soon found Brian & Beth had
already staked out the Dirt Devils claim with their trailer. Andy and I set
up camp on the opposite side and about 2pm, left them to their solar turkey
baking. I took him to the hills the DD had played on the past several years.
I couldn't find even one draw that we hadn't already gone up or down...so we
played in the "used ones". After 2 hours Andy went down a particularly
steep wall and didn't get turned fast enough as he slid to the bottom. He
was wedged in the opposing wall. I started down until I could get a strap on
him, but it was so steep I couldn't pull him back up. We both weigh about
4000lbs each..... way off on another hill, a couple Jeepers saw us and soon
showed up in the downhill side of the draw. He easily strapped the VehiCross
sideways and got his nose out of the draw.
I
started a fire that night and we enjoyed it for a few hours. Jessie and
party arrived before 8pm and shortly the wind turned into a SANDSTORM that
chased us all inside and lasted over 2 hours. I don't know how Andy's tent
withstood it.... He came inside for awhile, but about 10pm returned to the
tent with Marshall.
Without
the storm it would have been perfect, but we still enjoyed the weekend and
as others may write, I'll leave off here and we hope to see everyone at Toys
for Tots....oh yeah, we saw an air conditioner cover about a mile east of
the Dinosaur Dennys on the way home. Don't know if it was Toms or not.
