Truckhaven Hills over Thanksgiving 2001

Lockwood Creek Trail - Miller Jeep Trail

October 20, 2001

It’s pretty early at 6:00 a.m. to be out and about and on the road, but that’s what being a “Dirt Devil” is all about.  The fog was rolling around our hills in Brea as we left home to meet Jesse and our group and 2½ hours later we were in Frazier Park with a full tank of gas and ready to hit the trail as soon as Jesse said “go”!  This is our second time around for this “run” and needless to say, one of our favorite Dirt Devil runs.

By the way Jesse, you are one of the “best” trail leaders ever and a great “spotter”!  Jesse got every one up all the obstacles along with the help of John Strege.  Thanks guys!!!  This run is a lot of fun and a nice long run!  It is in the Mt. Pinos Mountains and has some steep areas.  It has great scenery, rock crawling, and a few rock gardens with several challenges.  If you don’t have a “locker”, that makes it even more exciting.  Since it’s such an exciting fun-filled run, we were surprised to only have six vehicles.  Those who didn’t have the opportunity to make it, certainly lost out on a great day as well as exciting.  With only six vehicles, we were finished by 5:00 p.m. which worked out fine since it’s a long drive home.  We talked Jesse into stopping for dinner (we didn’t have to twist his arm) so we could enjoy Eric and Amanda a little longer, Jesse and Cheryl’s two darling children.  Great kid’s Jesse!  Eric is six years old and had a good time riding with us in our Jeep.  He said “Larry, I really really like your Jeep, its like Lisa’s!!”  We played “Car” games to entertain Eric while he was with us, which was fun, right Eric??  However, we did have to make a couple of quick emergency stops on the trail, as he got “car sick” on the very bumpy trail.  Larry jumped out to help Eric out of the Jeep and it ended up being a nice back rub to make Eric feel better, along with some crackers and water.  It’s tough being a little guy but Eric, at six years old, “hung in there” like the trooper he is.  See you next time Eric and Amanda and we look forward to seeing more Dirt Devils on the next run.

It was also great seeing Rob Scholer on the trail again!  Hey Rob, don’t wait so long next time, Toyota ’s are allowed to come along too!  You did terrific… just wait until our next Colorado trip, you will truly love that one!  Also, our many thanks to Dean and Jesse for making that trip to Colorado … “awesome”, that was the best ever and so much fun!  Dean did you forget to do a run report on Colorado ???  How could you overlook such an overwhelming trip for the newsletter, when you did such an outstanding job leading the run?  We can hardly wait for another Colorado trip.  It was sure fun getting the “Cow Bell” but we have now passed it on.  The Dirt Devils… What a great club we are.
