Lockwood Trail / Lockwood Creek Trail / Miller Jeep Trail

The group that was out for this adventure:

  • Of course myself, since I am writing about this run.

  • A family friend – Greg and his two boys.

  • Rob & Marcie Scholer with a new little boy, about 24 inches, brown hair, craws around on all four nicely, teething, and has to be on a leash all the time,  - pup.

  • Steve Salisbury with a friend

  • Larry & Margie Williams

  • John Strege with a friend

We left Flying J’s about the time I had in my mind ( 8:50am ) to make sure there were no stragglers.  I was able to find the beginning of the Lockwood Trail and that is were we aired down.

At the very first hill climb Greg was having problems trying to keep his CJ7 running, so with some pointers he was ok to go again.

We got to the trail head of Lockwood Creek Trail about 10:15 and we looked at the nice rock obstacle at the top of the climb out of the creek.  I was first and of course I took the more difficult line.  With the help form John, I was able to get over it, without to much problems.  Next was Greg, well lets put it this way, I had to strap him as dead weight.  Steve had fun on the rock obstacle. Then Rob had work on it also, and his new skid plat for his exhaust pipe worked!  Larry was next and his front bumper driver side has some new scratches so does his nerf bars.  John was the tail end, and tried the rocks also, but the front did not grab correctly and had to try a different line and was fine.  We got back in and continue going up the hill. All of a sudden I herd over the radio that John stating he was stuck.  I’m thinking, John stuck. Hmmmm.  Come to find out a rock grabbed his rear axle and held on and not let him go.  So a little work John was on the move again. Several times my son would state that he was sick and we would stop for a couple of minutes. We finally made it to a lunch point.

After lunch we did kabob hill and on down towards the start of Miller Jeep trail.  We stopped at the bottom before we started the last hill climb of the day. Miller Jeep trail is rocky as usual.  We made it to the one area near the top that usually requires some spotting.  We all made it without to much trouble.  Again the only strap that came out was after Greg completed the obstacle but had to stop because I was to close to the obstacle. We all made it to top and stopped for a nice break.  While we where there we noticed that Larry was leaking some coolant, but we were not able to find where it was leaking from.  So we decided to head on down the hill to head home.  A call came out to stop to fill Larry’s coolant bottle, because the idiot like came on.  After filling the overfull bottle, every thing seems to be ok, nothing is leaking. So on down we go. After getting down into the Gorman play area, we headed over to Flying J’s to fill up tires and tanks.

After everything was filled up or taken care of, we all headed for home.
