March, Friday 26th was a very hectic day for me. Quitting my
job of 10 years and getting ready to start the new job on Monday. But a trip was
also on my mind, the Mojave Road.
Many thanks to Dan for getting the maps and GPS coordinates.
I picked up Eric at 5:00 and headed for the first camp location on my map and
trusty GPS. When I got to Beaker, I got my last change for gas. And noticed that
there was a lot of Jeeps heading off (most likely Moab).. J.
When I turned off the 15, The thing that came to mind was, I
am going into nothingness. Following my GPS and maps I was getting really close
to camp and started to call for the group, it was about 10:30 and hoping
somebody was still up listening for me. Well, with my lead foot, (I was trying
to smooth out the wash boards), I almost passed camp, while Dan was telling me
to STOP!!!!
And turn...
Saturday, Nice and A LOT of sun, with a nice shot of a
blooming cactus. Made camp early, and enjoyed the lava tubes.
Sunday, Again, A LOT of sun. Good shot of an arch near the
dry lake bed we crossed. Fun in the sand with lunch under the train tracks in
Afton canyon. During lunch we had an idiot trying to cross the deep sand in a
Mustang. Just having one vehicle (Jeep or Ford) could not get enough traction to
pull him out. So the Ford, my Jeep, and another Jeep strapped together and
pulled the man to more solid ground. After we returned, a guest Jeep would not
start so it was towed out to the 15 behind the Ford.
ALL in all I had a great relaxing time to forget about
work!!!!
