We set out early to go to the meadows above our camp. Barbara
and her family, Andy and Jennifer, Pete, Mike, and myself... along with Larry
and Tim. It didn’t take us long to reach the ridge road where we found that
the road had been graded into a major fire access road. While still steep in
some places, it was very wide and groomed so the morning run to the meadows was
a fast one. Since it was still early, we decided to run over to Left hand Turn
Hill, Jeep Squeeze, and Quiet Road. En route Pete’s jeep started making a
funny noise from the front end so it was decided that Andy would go back to camp
with him. The rest of us headed onward to Jeep Squeeze and Quiet Road. After
playing in the squeeze canyon, we continued on to the campground on Quiet Road -
a great place to remote camp! Just as we arrived there we spotted a deer eating
(very cool). This campground is great for tent camping and includes a picnic
bench, fire ring, a large metal trash can, plus the chance of some great
wildlife stalking.
On our way back we tried to find a spring and a lookout road.
After exploring a few different turn-offs, we headed back to camp, never finding
the spring, but I think we were on the lookout road. It just wasn’t a very
traveled road; lots of overgrown trees and bushes. Back at camp we all rested a
little, then had a nice lunch before we started packing up for our return home.
On our way home Larry and Tim decided to join us. We had one last stop we had to
make before we all split up and went our own separate ways, somebody (guess who)
got hungry. Time to stop at Tom’s Farm! Good food, live music, ducks, and a
breeze with some shade, how can you pass that up? After eating a real lunch (it
was supposed to be just an ice cream stop) we all said our good-byes.
What a great end to our Fourth of July weekend club run! That’s it for now.
