Note:
This is the
article that appears in the 1-00 In Gear and on the Cal 4 Wheel Website
regarding our convention trail rides.
For Convention 2000, the Dirt Devils of
Southern California will be hosting several trail rides for your
enjoyment! When Liz Cowling approached our club about the
possibility of us leading a trail ride at Convention 2000, we thought it
was a great idea! Especially since Big Bear & Lake Arrowhead are only
45 minutes away from the Convention! It will be a great way to run some
new trails for those of you from the other districts! It will also be a
great way to meet some of the nice people from the other districts as
well. We all hope to start the ball rolling for trail rides at the
future conventions as well. We will be running "Red" and
"Green" trails to keep all the different types of vehicles and
drivers happy! Also note that these trail rides are included in your
Convention 2000 registration! All we ask is that your vehicle pass the Cal 4
Wheel safety list, and you come ready to have fun! More details will be
available as the convention nears! Also notice that the Sunday run leaves at
noon, so everyone can attend! The following is a list of what we have so far!
If you have any questions about the runs, or need any additional
information, e-mail me at macgyverfamily@worldnet.att.net
Sunday, February 20th. Sunday runs will leave
Convention at 12:00p.m. sharp!
Red Trail: We will be running our club's
adopt-a-trail, 3N34. Also known as Dishpan Springs or Deep Creek. This trail
is in the Lake Arrowhead Area. It is recommended to be set up for the
rocks to run this trail! The Forrest Service gives this trail a Most
Difficult rating, and it has it's tough rock sections and a couple of good
climbs! 31" tires minimum are required, and driver experience
is a must. There is a good chance of returning in the dark. (Night Run!) If
you have any questions about the trail please e-mail. Your trail leaders
for the day are Quinn "Macgyver" Thomas and Kory Merrill.
Green Trail:
This trail will be run over a few
different trails and is commonly referred to as the Willow Creek Jeep Trail. This
is an all wheel base run, great for new drivers, sport utility vehicles, and anyone
wanting a relaxing day in the forrest without tearing up your vehicle. Also
great if you are leaving you hard core trail rig at home! Open to all
vehicles. This trail runs around Lake Arrowhead and offers a great views of
the area. This trail is a lot of fun! There can be some hard sections for
those that want them! Your trail leaders for the day are Travis and Lisa
Shrock.
Monday, February 21st. Monday runs will leave at
9:00a.m. sharp!
Red Trail:
We will be leading the group over a
trail called 3N61. It is near Onix Summit in Big Bear. It is rated Most
Difficult by the Forrest Service. This is a great trail with some fun rock
crawling sections and some beautiful canyons. It is on the less visited side
of Big Bear, so it may be new to a lot of people. It has it's tough sections
with some bypasses around the tougher sections. The top loops back around and
comes down the same way, doubling your rock crawling fun! 31" tires
minimum are again required and driver experience a must! This has become
one of our club's favorite trails in the Big Bear area! This
will be an all day run! Trail leader to be announced. For more
information, please e-mail.
Green Trail:
This trail is to be announced
later. If there is interest it will be in the Big Bear area and will run all
day. We have several possibilities for this run. More information later.
E-mail if you have any questions, or let us know if you want to run this one!
Please e-mail if you have any questions regarding the trails or
your vehicle set-up. We are excited to be apart of this new event at
Convention 2000! The Dirt Devils of Southern California look forward to
seeing you there! C-YA on the trail, Macgyver. |
